Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 05/04/2018Baloghia inophylla is an native shrub or tree largely distributed in Grande Terre as well as in Loyalty islands (Lifou and Ouvéa) and Ile des Pins. It is quite common and abundant, and occurs in dense humid forest on various substrate, up to 600 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 50,584 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 212 km², B. inophylla is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
B. inophylla is native species widely distributed in Grande Terre as well as in Loyalty islands (Lifou and Ouvéa) and Ile des Pins. It is also found in Norfolk island and Australia.
Population
Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common and abundant species.
Habitat
B. inophylla occurs in dense humid forest on various substrates (ultramafic, calcareous and volcano-sedimentary), up to 600 m asl.
Threats
This species could be affected by fires, feral pigs (Sus scrofa), Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and mining activities (Plateau (SLN)). However due to its large distribution, this species does not appear to be threatened at the moment.
Conservation
B. inophylla is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in one protected area: Montagne des Sources.
