Vulnerable (VU) , assessed in 10/06/2017Angiopteris evecta is an indigenous tree fern, spread from Mont Panié in the north to Koghis/Vallée de la Thy in the south of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic substrate, at an altitudinal range of 130-530 m asl. Currently highly threatened by rusa deer (Rusa timorensis russa) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa) in some locations, experts estimate a 30% population reduction in a time period that inclued past and future of 100 years. Angiopteris evecta is therefore assessed as Vulnerable (VU) with criteria A4(c +e).

Population size is unknown.
Habitat
Angiopteris evecta occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic substrate, at an altitudinal range of 130-530 m asl.
Threats
The main threat impacting this species comes from direct impact (consumption) caused by invasive species (rusa deer (Rusa timorensis russa) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa)), which may lead to a lack of regeneration, in particular in Dalmates, Amieu.
Conservation
Angiopteris evecta is unprotected by legislation however it occurs in three protected areas: Vallée de la Thy, Forêt de Saille, Aoupinié. It is recommended to inform the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels de Nouvelle-Calédonie (New Caledonia natural spaces conservatory), which coordinates the New caledonian Invasive Species Programme, on the situation of the species in the concerned areas.
