Calochlaena straminea is an indigenous fern, spread from Ignambi in the north to Vallée de la Thy in the south of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate, at an altitudinal range of 130-1,020 m asl. This species does not seem globally threatened. Calochlaena straminea is considered Least Concern (LC).
