Fontainea pancheri is an native shrub or tree of New Caledonia largely distributed in Grande Terre as well as in Loyalty Islands (Lifou). It is present in humid forest and dry forest on calcerous and volcano-sedimentary substrate, up to 250 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 40,029 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 172 km², F. pancheri is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


F. pancheri is native to New Caledonia where it is largely distributed in Grande Terre as well as in Loyalty Islands (Lifou). This species is also found in north east of Australia, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.

Population


Population size is unknown.

Habitat


F. pancheri occurs in humid forest and dry forest on calcareous and volcano-sedimentary substrate, up to 250 m asl.

Threats


Despite being sensitive to vegetation degradation linked to bushfires and mining activities Nakety (SMT) and Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis), this species does not seem directly threatened thanks to its wide distribution in the area.

Conservation


F. pancheri is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected area.
