Alstonia vieillardii is an endemic shrub or tree of New Caledonia growing up to 6-15 m high. It is restricted to the southern half part of the Grande Terre, from the far south to its uppper limit at Bourail-Houailou area. It grows in dense humid forests on ultramafic substate up to 760 m asl. This species is common and occurs in several protected areas. It does not seem threatened although some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires. With an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) and Area of Occupancy (AOO) equal to 6,442 and 244 km², respectively, Alstonia vieillardii is considered as Least Concern (LC).

Population
The population size is not known. Field prospections indicate that the species is very common.
Habitat
Alstonia vieillardii occurs in dense humid forests on ultramafic substate up to 760 m asl.
Threats
Alstonia vieillardii does not seem threatened although some subpopulations may be impacted by uncontrolled bushfires.
Conservation
Alstonia vieillardii s not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in several protected areas: Rivière bleue, Barrage de Yaté, Côte Oubliée, Forêt cachée, Forêt de Saille, Haute Dumbéa, Haute Pourina, Haute Yaté, la Dumbéa, Massif du Kouakoué, Montagne des sources, Mont Mou, Pic du Pin.
