This species is common on limestone formations up to 50 m asl.There is no particular threats identified as it is not impacted by wild goats or any other invasive species. Therefore Sarcolobus retusus is considered Least Concern (LC).

Sarcolobus retusus does not appear to be significantly threatened at the moment. Though some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires.
Conservation
Sarcolobus retusus is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected area.
