Celastrus paniculatus is a native liana of New Caledonia, with a large distribution in the western coast of Grande Terre as well as in Ile des Pins. This species is found in littoral humid forest and dry forest on calcerious, ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate, from 5 to 250 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 10,805 and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 112 km², C. paniculatus is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


C. paniculatus is a native of New Caledonia largely distributed in Grande Terre as well as in Ile des Pins. It is also distributed from India to Australia.

Population


Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common species.

Habitat


C. paniculatus occurs in littoral humid forest and dry forest on calcerious, ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate, from 5 to 250 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened, although some subpopulations may be impacted by uncontrolled bushfires, Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and urbanisation.

Conservation


This species is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in two protected areas: Ile Leprédour and Mont Mou.
