Chrysopogon aciculatus is an autochtonous herb from New Caledonia, where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre, as well as in Bélep islands, Ile des Pins and Loyalty islands (Maré, Ouvéa and Lifou). It occurs in open areas in particular in shrubland, roadside areas on various substrates up to 900 m asl. This species is very common and this species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated to be 61,732 and 128 km², respectively. Therefore, Chrysopogon aciculatus is listed as Least Concern (LC).
