Lepturus repens is an autochtonous herb from New Caledonia where it is widely distributed in the coastal areas of Grande Terre as well as in Loyalty islands (Maré, Lifou, Ouvéa and Tiga) and the islets near by (Walpole, Entrecasteaux, Chesterfield and Bellona). This species occurs in various habitats on sandy and calcareous substrates but it can also be seen in serpentine substrate. This species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 322,482 and 148 km², respectively. Therefore, Lepturus repens is listed as Least Concern (LC).
