Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 31/01/2023Spinifex sericeus is an autochtonous herb from New Caledonia where it is widely distributed in the west coast area of Grande Terre as well as in Ile des Pins and near by islets and Loyalty islands (Maré, Lifou, Ouvéa). This species occurs in littoral habitats on sandy and calcareous substrates up to 10 m asl. This species is common and it does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 49,565 and 76 km², respectively. Therefore, Spinifex sericeus is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this species is very common.

Spinifex sericeus is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected area.
