Stenotaphrum micranthum is an autochtonous herb from New Caledonia where it is widely distributed in the coastal areas of Grande Terre as well as in Loyalty islands (Maré, Lifou, Ouvéa and Tiga) and the islets near by (Entrecasteaux, Chesterfield and Bellona). This species occurs in various habitats in calcareous and sandy substrates up to 70 m asl. This species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 334,072 and 88 km², respectively. Therefore, Stenotaphrum micranthum is listed as Least Concern (LC).
