Gmelina magnifica is a big tree growing up to 10-20 m high endemic from New Caledonia. It has a scattered distribution from Amoa to Mandjélia in the north east and in the central part of Grande Terre, from Farino to Nakada. This species occurs in humid forests on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitude range of 50-970 m asl. The main threats identified are uncontrolled bushfires for the lower subpopulations and invasive species (feral pigs and Rusa Deer). Its Extent of Occurrence (EOO) and Area of Occupancy (AOO) are respectively estimated to be 3,151 km² and 68 km² with a number of locations equal to ten. Therefore Gmelina magnifica qualififies as Vulnerable under criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with a decline of habitat quality and number of mature individuals.
