Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 26/01/2018Syzygium densiflorum is an endemic shrub or tree of New Caledonia largely distributed in Grande Terre as well as in Loyalty Islands (Maré and Lifou). This species is abundant and it occurs in dense humid forest on various substrates (volcano sedimentary, ultramafic and calcareous rocks), up to 600 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 39,884 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 128 km², S. densiflorum is not considered threatened and is therefore assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
S. densiflorum is endemic to New Caledonia where it is largely distributed in Grande Terre as well as Loyalty Islands (Maré and Lifou).
Population
Population size is unknown but based on field observations, it is a common species.
Habitat
S. densiflorum occurs in dense humid forest on various substrates (volcano sedimentary, ultramafic and calcareous rocks), up to 600 m asl.
Threats
This species could be affected by fires.
Conservation
This species is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in two protected areas: Rivière bleue and Vallée de la Thy.
