Near Threatened (NT) , assessed in 26/01/2018Syzygium pseudopinnatum is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia distributed in Loyalty Islands and Ile des Pins with one observation at Baie de N'Go. This species is common and is found in dense humid forest on volcano sedimentary, ultramafic and calcareous rocks from 5 to 10 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 22,012 and 52 km², respectively. The main threats are posed by bushfires at Ile des Pins but it does not seem to be threatened at Loyalty islands. Therefore, S. pseudopinnatum is listed as Near Threatened (NT), close to VU under criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v).
Geographical area
S. pseudopinnatum is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is distributed in Loyalty Islands and Ile des Pins with one observation at Baie de N'Go.
Population
Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate the species is very common in Loyalty Islands.
Habitat
S. pseudopinnatum occurs in dense humid forest on volcano sedimentary, ultramafic and calcareous rocks from 5 to 10 m asl.
Threats
The main threats are posed by bushfires at Ile des Pins but it does not seem to be threateened at Loyalty islands.
Conservation
This species is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does not occur in any protected area. Prospection at N'Go is recommended to confirm this location.
