Trema cannabina is an native species widely distributed across the Grande Terre, as well as Belep islands, Ile des Pins and Loyalty island (Lifou). This species occurs in degraded areas. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) is equal to 52,563 km² and its area of occupancy (AOO) equal to160 km², respectively. It is a pioneer plant of forests. It is quite common and does not seem threatened. Therefore, Trema cannabina is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


Trema cannabina is native to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed across the Grande Terre, as well as Belep islands, Ile des Pins and Loyalty island (Lifou).

Population


The population size is not known. Field observations indicate a species quite common.

Habitat


This species occurs in degraded areas. It is a pioneer plant of forests.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened.

Conservation


Trema cannabina is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in two protected areas : Vallée de la Thy, Aoupinié.
