It occurs in shrubland (sometimes forest) at low and mid altitude (50 - 1,020 m asl) on ultramafic substrate. This species does not seem directly threatened. Polyscias pancheri is considered Least Concern (LC).

Polyscias pancheri is not protected by local legislation. It occurs in several protected areas : Barrage de Yaté, Montagne des sources, Mont Do, Pic du Pin, Chutes de la Madeleine, Haute Dumbéa, la Dumbéa, Rivière bleue, Massif du Kouakoué
