Polyscias scopoliae is an endemic tree/small tree of New Caledonia restricted to the southern part of Grande Terre. It is found in shrubland on ultramafic substrate at low to rather high altitude. The main threats impacting this species come from habitat degradation caused by bushfires and mining activities. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 68 and 1,445 km², Polyscias scopoliae is considered Vulnerable (VU) using criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with an estimation of 8 locations and a decline of habitat quality and number of mature individuals.
Geographical area
Polyscias scopoliae is an endemic tree/small tree of New Caledonia restricted to the southern part of Grande Terre (from Dumbéa to Ménazi).
Population
Population size is unknown. This species is known from 7-8 subpopulations.
Habitat
It is found in shrubland on ultramafic substrate at low to rather high altitude (20-820 m asl).
Threats
The main threats impacting this species come from habitat degradation caused by bushfires and mining activities.
Conservation
This species is protected by legislation in province Nord but not in province Sud. It is found in two protected areas : Réserve de la Haute-Dumbéa and Parc Provincial de la Dumbéa
