Artia brachycarpa is an endemic liana of New Caledonia mostly distributed in the north-west of Grande Terre, from Avangui to Poum, as well as in the Belep islands (on Ile Art). This species is abundant and it occurs in shrubland and dry forest on ultramafic substrates, up to 500 m asl. It does not seem to be significantly threatened. Therefore, despite having an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 3,038 km² and a minimum Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 276km², Artia brachycarpa is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Artia brachycarpa is endemic to New Caledonia where it mostly distributed in the north west of Grande Terre, from Avangui to Poum, as well as at Belep islands (Ile Art)

Population


Population size is unknown but field observations indicate a common species.

Habitat


Artia brachycarpa occurs in shrubland, dry forest on ultramafic substrate, up to 500 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem globally threatened. However, some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires (Belep, Paagoumène, Village de Voh) and mining activities at Poum and Tiebaghi.

Conservation


Artia brachycarpa is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and does not occurs in a protected area.
