Pandanus viscidus is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia with a scattered distribution in the north and in the southern part of Grande Terre. It occurs in wetlands and marshy areas on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic rocks up to 210 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 11,692 and 128 km², respectively. P. viscidus does not seem significantly threatened and is considered Least Concern (LC).

Pandanus viscidus occurs in wetlands and marshy areas on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic rocks up to 210 m asl.
This species does not seem threatened but some subpopulations may be directly impacted by fire and indirectly by mining activities (Kopéto, Ada and Tiebaghi).
Pandanus viscidus is protected by legislation in Province Nord and it does not occur in any protected areas.
