Gymnostoma deplancheanum is an endemic tree from New Caledonia, where it is distributed to the south of Grande Terre. This species is quite common and it occurs in shrubland on ultramafic substrate up to 885 m asl. Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation by bushfires and mining activities but globally this species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 3,257 and 232 km², respectively. Therefore, Gymnostoma deplancheanum is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this species is common.
Habitat
This species occurs in shrubland on ultramafic substrate up to 885 m asl.
Threats
Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation by bushfires and mining activities but globally this species does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Gymnostoma deplancheanum is unprotected by legislation in New Caledonia but it occurs in numerous protected areas: Chutes de la Madeleine, Barrage de Yaté, Cap N'dua, Côte Oubliée, Forêt cachée, Haute Dumbéa, Haute Yaté, la Dumbéa, Massif du Kouakoué, Mont Humboldt, Rivière bleue
