Pancheria alaternoides is an endemic shrub/small tree of the southern part of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is found in shrubland and wetlands at low and mid altitude on ultramafic substrate. This species does not seem globally threatened. Pancheria alaternoides is considered Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Pancheria alaternoides is spread in the southern part of Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Yaté (including ile Ouen) to Thio (Ton N'Deu valley).
Population
This species is abundant in southern Grande-Terre.
Habitat
It is found in shrubland and wetlands at low and mid altitude (1-600 m asl) on ultramafic substrate.
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities (Goro, Tontoura) and bushfires.
Conservation
Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in numerous protected areas : Rivière bleue, Haute Dumbéa, Massif du Kouakoué, Barrage de Yaté, Forêt cachée, Vallée de la Thy, Mont Mou. This species can be used for riverbanks restoration.
