With an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 8,138 km2, an area of occupancy (AOO) of 188 km2 and around 20 known subpopulations, Hibbertia podocarpifolia is assigned a status of Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Hibbertia podocarpifolia is an endemic tree spread on the main island of New Caledonia from Dumbéa to Koné. It is a common species on the east coast.
Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
H. podocarpifolia is found in shrubland and humid forest on ultramafic soils at an altitudinal range 1 - 1100 m asl. It can also be found on riverside forest.
Threats
Mining activities may affect H. podocarpifolia. As a riparian species, population of H. podocarpifolia located on riverbank can be affected by erosion caused by heavy rain.
Conservation
H.podocarpifolia is not protected by legislation but it occurs in protected areas (Parc des Grandes Fougères,réserve naturelle de la forêt de Saille, réserve naturelle du Pic Ningua, réserve naturelle du Mont Do, réserve naturelle du Mont Mou).
