Cyathopsis albicans is a common and abundant shrub endemic to New Caledonia, distributed from the southern part to the center of Grande Terre and in Kopéto on the west coast. It is found in scrubland on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 100-1,000 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 6,793 km² and 128 km², respectively, and it does not seem threatened. Therefore, C. albicans is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
C. albicans is a common and abundant shrub endemic to New Caledonia, distributed from the southern peridotite massifs to the central part of Grande Terre, as well as Kopéto on the west coast.
Population
Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate the species is locally abundant.
Habitat
C. albicans occurs in scrubland on soils derived from ultramafic substrate from 100 to 1,000 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem directly threatened, although some subpopulations may be impacted by actual mining activities (Camp des sapins (SLN), Koniambo (KNS) and Kopéto (SLN)) and potential future mining projects at Creek Pernod.
Conservation
C. albicans is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in four protected areas: Mont Do, Haute Yaté, Montagne des sources and Parc de la Rivière bleue.
