Syzygium toninense is an endemic shrub or small tree of New Caledonia distributed from the center to the north east of Grande Terre (from Farino to Hienghène). This species is quite common and it is found in dense humid forest on volcano sedimentary and rarely on ultramafic substrates, between 150 to 850 m asl. Despite having an area of occupancy and an extent of occurrence equal to 112 and 4,357 km² respectively, S. toninense has no apparent threat, and is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened. It is listed as Least Concern (LC).

S. toninense is endemic of New Caledonia where it is distributed from the center to the north east of Grande Terre (from Farino to Hienghène).

Population


Population size is unknown but based on field observations, it is a common species.

Habitat


S. toninense occurs in dense humid forest on volcano sedimentary and rarely on ultramafic substrate, between 150 to 850 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened, although some subpopulations may be impacted by fires.

Conservation


S. toninense is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in only two protected areas: Aoupinié and Nodéla.
