Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 28/11/2018Lastreopsis vieillardii is a terrestrial endemic fern of New Caledonia widely distributed in Grande Terre. This species is common and abondant and is found in dense humid forest on various substrates (clay, ultramafic and volcano sedimentary rocks) up to 1,200 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 4,837 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 120 km², L. vieillardii does not seem treathened and therefore is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Lastreopsis vieillardii is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre from Mandjelia in the north east to Desmazures forests in the south.
Population
Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common and abundant species.
Habitat
Lastreopsis vieillardii is a terrestrial fern which occurs in dense humid forest on various substrates (clay, ultramafic and volcano sedimentary rocks) at an altitudinal range of 150 and 1,200 m asl.
Threats
There is no threat identified.
Conservation
This species is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it occurs in four protected areas: Vallée de la Thy, Grandes Fougères, Mt Mou and Aoupinié.
