It grows on or at the base of low elevation or littoral calcareous cliffs or rocks. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 4,286 and 72 km², respectively, and no specific threats have been identified. Therefore, T. lifuensis is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
T. lifuensis is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the Loyalty Islands (Ouvéa, Lifou and Maré).
Population
Population size is unknown, but field observation indicate that this species is quite common in Lifou and Maré, but scarcer in Ouvéa.
Habitat
This terrestrial or saxicolous fern grows on or at the base of low elevation and littoral cliffs, dolines, and shady rocky areas.
Threats
No specific threats to this species have been identified. Although it is sometimes located close to human settlements, its specific habitat is sheltered from human impacts (fires, clearings).
Conservation
T. lifuensis is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and does not occur in any protected areas.
