Near Threatened (NT) , assessed in 28/11/2018Hymenophyllum humboldtianum is an endemic epyphitic fern on tree's trunck from New Caledonia. It has a scattered distribution in the north east and the south of Grande Terre. It occurs in high altitude from 400 and 1,550 m asl. This species is not globally threathened except a potential threat by feral pigs (Sus scrofa) that may contribute to the decline of habitat observed at Mont Panié. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated to be 4,271 and 56 km², respectively, and it is known from a small number of locations. Therefore, H. humboldtianum is listed as Near Threathened (NT) close to VU B1ab (iii) + 2ab (iii).
Geographical area
Hymenophyllum humboldtianum is endemic to New Caledonia where it has a scattered distribution in the north east and the south of Grande Terre.
Population
Population size is unknown. However field's prospections indicate a species which is not so common.
Habitat
Hymenophyllum humboldtianum is an epiphytic fern on tree's trunck which occurs in dense humid forest from 400 to 1,550 m asl.
Threats
This species is not globally threathened except a potential threat by feral pigs (Sus scrofa) that contribute to the decline of habitat observed at Mont Panié.
Conservation
Hymenophyllum humboldtianum is not protected by legislation however it does occur in six protected areas: Aoupinié, Côte Oubliée, Massif du Kouakoué, Mont Humboldt, Mont Mou, Mont Panié. This species is not common. Prospection is recommended to better estimate its distribution and threats.
