Hymenophyllum leratii is an epiphytic fern on rotten tree's trunk, endemic of New Caledonia, with a scattered distribution between the south and the north east of Grande Terre. This species is locally common and abundant and is found in dense humid forest from 100 to 1,300 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 4,549 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 64 km², H. leratii does not seem threatened and therefore is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


Hymenophyllum leratii is endemic to New Caledonia where it has a scattered distribution in Grande Terre, between the south (from La Thy to Parc des Grandes Fougères) and the north east (from Amoa to Mont Panié).

Population


Population size is unknown. Based on field observations, it is a locally common and an abundant species starting from 900 m.

Habitat


Hymenophyllum leratii is an epiphytic fern mainly on rotten tree's trunk which occurs in dense humid forest from 100 to 1,300 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened.

Conservation


Hymenophyllum leratii is not protected by legislation however it does occur in four protected areas: Parc des Grandes Fougères, Mont Panié, Aoupinié, Rivière bleue, Pic Ningua.
