Hymenophyllum francii is an endemic epyphitic fern on tree's trunck from New Caledonia, where it is mostly spread in the south with an observation at Boulinda in the north west and at Mont Panié in the north east of Grande Terre. It occurs in high altitude from 500 and 1,300 m asl. Known from eight localities, its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated to be 5,446 and 48 km², respectively. This species is not globally threathened except a potential threat by feral pigs (Sus scrofa) that contribute to the decline of habitat observed at Mont Panié. Therefore, H. francii is listed as Near Threathened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii)+2ab (iii).
