Selaginella megastachy a is a terrestrial fern with a creeping and climbing stem, endemic of New Caledonia and distributed from the central part to the north east part of Grande Terre. This species is locally common and abundant and it is found in dry forestand dense humid forest on ultramafic, calcareous and volcano sedimentary substrates from 300 to 1,100 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 2,429 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 52 km², S. megastachy a does not seem threatened and therefore is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


Selaginella megastachya is endemic to New Caledonia where it is distributed from the central part to the north east part of Grande Terre, from Bourail to Ignambi massifs.

Population


Population size is unknown. Nevertheless S. megastachya is particularly abundant in the north east of Grande Terre.

Habitat


Selaginella megastachya is an endemic terrestrial fern with a creeping and climbing stem, which occurs in dry forests and dense humid forests on volcano-sedimentary substrates, from 300 to 1,100 m asl.

There is no threat identified.

Conservation


Selaginella megastachya is not protected by legislation and it does not occur in a protected area.
