Miscanthus floridulus is an autochtonous herb from New Caledonia, where it is distributed across Grande Terre, as well as Loyalty islands (Maré). It occurs in open areas mainly in disturbed areas in various substrates up to 800 m asl. This species is very common and it does not seem to be threatened. Indeed this species grows well in disturbed areas and it regenerates well after bushfires. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 32,664 and 116 km², respectively. Therefore, Miscanthus floridulus is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Conservation
Miscanthus floridulus is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in two protected areas : Aoupinié, Mont Mou.
