It occurs in various habitats areas and substrates but rarely in ultramafic substrate up to 500 m asl. This species is very common and this species does not seem to be threatened. Indeed, this species resists direct grazing and human disturbance. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 8,822 and 72 km², respectively. Therefore, Sporobolus creber is listed as Least Concern (LC).
