in Southern Province , in Northern ProvinceBulbophyllum comptonii is an epiphytic orchid endemic of New Caledonia and it is located on Panié-Mandjélia-Colnett sector. B. comptonii occurs in dense humid forest at an altitude range of 700 and 800 m asl. This species is not rare and it does not seem threatened. Some subpopulations can be potentially impacted by invasive species (feral pigs, Sus scrofa and Rusa deer, Rusa timorensis) but the impact of the threats are low in humid forests. This species occurs in high altitudinal rangeand may have a wider distribution range. Its area of occupancy (AOO) being estimated to be between 20 and 40 and its extent of occurrence (EOO) betwwen 85 and 100 km², respectively. Therefore Bulbophyllum comptonii is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) with an estimated decline of quality of habitat quality and a small number of locations.
Geographical area
Bulbophyllum comptonii is endemic to New Caledonia and it is distributed to the north east part of Grande Terre.
Population
The population size is unknown. Field observations indicate the species is not rare.
