Bulbophyllum cylindrobulbum is a native epiphyte orchid known from New Caledonia, Papua-New-Guinea and Indonesia. In New Caledonia, B. cylindrobulbum is widespread across the Grande Terre (main island). B. cylindrobulbum occurs in talweg forest on ultramafic substrate, in dense humid forest and on humid forest edges at an altitudinal range 50-1100 m. asl. With an area of occupancy and an area of occurrence equal to 184 and 9897 km² respectively, B. cylindrobulbum qualifies as Least Concern.

B. cylindrobulbum is an endemic epiphyte orchid of New Caledonia widespread across the Grande Terre (main island).
Population
There is no known detailed population information about Bulbophyllum cylindrobulbum, but it has been listed as 'common' where it occurs, especially in northern part of Grande Terre.
Habitat
B. cylindrobulbum occurs in talweg forest on ultramafic substrate, in dense humid forest and on humid forest edges at an altitudinal range 50-1100 m. asl.
Threats
Except the threat of nickel mining on Koniambo, this species does not seem threatened.
Conservation
B. cylindrobulbum is protected by legislation in Province Nord and Province Sud and occurs in protected areas : réserve de nature sauvage du Mont Panié, Parc des Grandes Fougères, réserve naturelle du Mont Do, réserve naturelle de la forêt de Saille, Parc provincial de la Rivière Bleue.
