Calanthe oreadum is an endemic terrestrial orchid, widespread in Grande Terre, from Mandjelia in the north to Vallée de la Thy in the south of New Caledonia. It occurs in humid forest at an altitudinal range 300-1,300 m asl. This species does not seem globally threatened. Calanthe oreadum is considered Least Concern (LC).

This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Koniambo (KNS).
