An endemic orchid of New Caledonia, Gunnarella aymardii is known from the north part of Grande Terre from Plateau de Dogny to the Dawenia area. G. aymardii is found in humid forest at an altitudinal range of 50-1,000 m asl. Despite having an area of occupancy and an extent of occurrence equal to 84 and 3,159 km² respectively, G. aymardii has no apparent threat, and is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened. It is listed as Least Concern.

Population


Population size is unknown. However, field observations indicate a common species in the north.

Habitat


G. aymardii is found in humid forest at an altitudinal range 50-1000 m asl.

Threats


There is no apparent threat to G. aymardii.

Conservation


Gunnarella aymardii is protected by legislation in Province Nord and occurs in two protected areas: Réserve de Nature Sauvage du Massif de l’Aoupinié and Parc des Grandes Fougères.
