in Southern Province , in Northern ProvinceAn endemic orchid of New Caledonia, Habenaria insularis is known only from a unique collection of Schlechter made in 1903 near Ou Hinna. Not seen since its description, H. insularis was found in humid forest at 800 m asl. Considering its botanical description (type destroyed during second world war), H. insularis cannot be confused with any other species. In the absence of prospection, we do not have enough material to assess H. insularis properly and thus it is classified as Data Deficient.

Population size is unknown.
Habitat
H. insularis was found in humid forest at 800 m asl.
Threats
We do not have any data on threats which may impact H. insularis.
Conservation
Habenaria insularis is protected by legislation in Province Nord, but has never been recorded in any protected area. Not seen since its description, it is urgent to search the Ou Hinna area to confirm the existence of H. insularis.
