Pandanus clandestinus is an endemic shrub restricted to the north-east of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. This species is found in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary rocks at an altitude range 350-632 m asl. Main identified threat is linked to habitat damage by ongoing uncontrolled bushfires. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are respectively estimated to be of 226 km² and 36 km² while the number of locations are estimated to be five. P. clandestinus is therefore assessed as Endangered (EN) with criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with a continuing decline of its habitat quality and number of mature individuals.

Pandanus clandestinus is an endemic to New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the north-east of Grande Terre.

Conservation
Pandanus clandestinus is protected by legislation in Province Nord and in Province Sud. It is present in one protected area: Mt Panié. It is recommended to carry further prospections in other areas in north east of Grande Terre, to monitor known population and better estimate its population size.
