Drosera neocaledonica occurs in open vegetation (shrubland, occasionnaly forest) at low to high altitude (50-1,280 m asl), essentially on ultramafic substrate. This species does not seem directly threatened. Drosera neocaledonica is considered Least Concern (LC).

Unprotected by legislation, this species occurs in several protected areas : Pic Ningua, Forêt de Saille, Montagne des sources, Rivière bleue, Massif du Kouakoué, Vallée de la Thy, Mont Do, Chutes de la Madeleine
