Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 02/03/2018Dubouzetia confusa is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the ultramafic massifs of the south of Grande Terre. It occurs in shrubland and transitional vegetation between 20 and 800 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 1,025 and 144 km², respectively. The main impacts on the species are caused by bushfires and mining activities, but the species does not appear to be directly threatened at the moment. Therefore, despite having a relatively small range, D. confusa is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
D. confusa is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the massifs of the south of Grande Terre: Montagne des Sources, Dzumac, Rivière Bleue and the southeast (Yaté, Plaine des Lacs, Prony and Port Boisé).
Population
Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate the species is locally scarce.
Habitat
D. confusa occurs in altitudinal shrubland ('maquis' vegetation), transitional vegetation and sometimes forest on ultramafic soil between 20 and 800 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem directly threatened at the moment. However, some subpopulations are impacted by bushfires and mining activities.
Conservation
This species is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in numerous protected areas: Netcha, Pic du grand Kaori, Rivière Bleue, Pic du Pin, Barrage de Yaté, Chutes de la Madeleine, Forêt Nord, Haute Pourina, Haute Yaté.
