Alyxia baillonii is a big and robust liana endemic to New Caledonia distributed in the southern part of Grande Terre. It is present from the far south (Goro) to Mont Ningua-Thio with some isolated observations at Sarraméa and Bourail. It occurs in humid forest and forest edges on ultramafic substrate up to 1,000 m asl. This species is very common and it does not seem to be threatened. With an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 3,889 km² and a minimum Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 164 km², Alyxia baillonii is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Alyxia baillonii is endemic to New Caledonia where it is distributed in the southern part of Grande Terre. It is present from the far south (Goro) to Mont Ningua-Thio with some isolated observations at Sarraméa and Bourail.
Population
The population size is not known. Field observations indicate a species that is very common.
Habitat
Alyxia baillonii occurs in humid forest and forest edges on ultramafic substrate up to 1,000 m asl.
Threats
Alyxia baillonii is forest species and is common and it does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Alyxia baillonii is protected by legislation in Province Nord and it does occur in numerous protected areas: Côte Oubliée, Forêt de Saille, Haute Dumbéa, la Dumbéa, Massif du Kouakoué, Montagne des sources, Pic du Pin, Pic Ningua, Rivière bleue, Vallée de la Thy.
