Alyxia baillonii is a big and robust liana endemic to New Caledonia distributed in the southern half part of Grande Terre. It is present from the far south (Goro) to Mont Ningua-Thio with some isolated observations at Sarraméa and Bourail at the northern limit of the distribution. It occurs in humid forests and forest edges on ultramafic substrate up to 1,000 m asl. This species is verycommon and it does not seem to be threatened. With an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 3,889 km² and a minimum Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 164 km², Alyxia baillonii is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Alyxia baillonii is endemic to New Caledonia where it is present from the far south (Goro) to Mont Ningua-Thio with some isolated observations at Sarraméa and Bourail at the nothern limit of the distribution.
Population
The population size is not known. Field observations indicate a species that is verycommon.
Habitat
Alyxia baillonii occurs in humid forests and forest edges on ultramafic substrate up to 1,000 m asl.
Threats
This species is forest species and is common and it does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Alyxia baillonii is protected by legislation in Province Nord and it does occur in several protected areas: Côte Oubliée, Forêt de Saille, Haute Dumbéa, la Dumbéa, Massif du Kouakoué, Montagne des sources, Pic du Pin, Pic Ningua, Rivière bleue, Vallée de la Thy.
