Alyxia clusiophylla is an endemic shrub growing up to 2 m high endemic to New Caledonia restricted to the Grand Sud massif of the main island (Grande Terre). It is distributed from Goro at the far south to Camp des Sapins. It occurs in maquis on ultramafic substrate between 150 and 1,200 m asl. This species is quite common in the south and it does not seem to be threatened. With an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 1,527 km² and a minimum Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 96 km², Alyxia clusiophylla is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Alyxia clusiophylla is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to the Grand Sud massif of the main land (Grande Terre). It is distributed from the far south at Goro to Camp des Sapins.
Population
The population size is not known. Field observations indicate a species that is quite common.
Habitat
Alyxia clusiophylla occurs in maquis on ultramafic substrate between 150 and 1,200 m asl.
Threats
This species is quite common and it does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord and it does occur in several protected areas: Pic du Pin, Chutes de la Madeleine, Côte Oubliée, Haute Yaté, Mont Humboldt, Rivière bleue.
