Alyxia podocarpa is an autochthonous liana from New Caledonia with a scattered distribution across Grande Terre. It occurs from Dothio-Moindou (the southern limit) to the northern limit at Kone-Touho. This species is found in low elevation, up to 300 m asl. and it occurs in humid forest and scrubland on volcano-sedimentary substrate. The main threats are bushfires, urbanisation, agriculture and invasive species (Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis)) that cause habitat degradation and habitat loss, which can impact some subpopulations. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 7,391 and 76 km², respectively, with a number of locations estimated to be 11, perhaps more. Therefore, Alyxia podocarpa is listed as Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(ii,iii,v)+B2ab(ii,iii,v).
