Melodinus phylliraeoides is an endemic liana from New Caledonia where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre as well as on Ile des Pins. It is mainly distributed in the west coast of Grande Terre, from Baaba (the northern limit) to Nouméa. It is found in gallery forest, dry forest and maquis on various substrates up to 800 m asl. This species is common and it does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 18,769 and 292 km², respectively. Therefore, Melodinus phylliraeoides is listed as Least Concerned (LC).
Geographical area
Melodinus phylliraeoides is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre as well as on Ile des Pins. It is mainly distributed in the west coast of Grande Terre, from Baaba (the northern limit) to Nouméa.
Population
The population size is not known. Field observations indicate a species that is common.
Habitat
This species is found in gallery forest, dry forest and maquis on various substrates up to 800 m asl.
Threats
This species is common and it does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord and it does occur in three protected areas: Aoupinié, Parc zoologique et forestier Michel Corbasson.
