Melodinus phylliraeoides is an endemic liana of New Caledonia with a scattered distribution across Grande Terre. It is mainly distributed in the north of Grande Terre, from Baaba (the northern limit) to Deva-Poindimié area and some isolated observations (the southern limit) (Plateau de Dogny, Parc Zoologique et Forestier and Ile des Pins). It is found in gallery forest, dry forest and maquis on various substrates at an altitude range of 5-800 m asl. This species is common and it does not seem to be threatened. Therefore Melodinus phylliraeoides is listed as Least Concerned (LC).
Geographical area
Melodinus phylliraeoides is endemic to New Caledonia with a scattered distribution across Grande Terre. It is mainly distributed in the north part of Grande Terre, from Baaba (the northern limit) to Deva-Poindimié area and some isolated observations (the southern limit) (Plateau de Dogny, Parc Zoologique et Forestier and Ile des Pins).
Population
The population size is not known. Field observations indicate a species that is common.
Habitat
This species is found in gallery forests, dry forests and maquis on various substrates at an altitude range of 5-800 m asl.
Threats
This species is common and it does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord and it does occur in three protected areas: Aoupinié, Parc zoologique et forestier Michel Corbasson.
