Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 19/11/2021Parsonsia effusa is an endemic liana of New Caledonia, distributed in the south of Grande Terre. It occurs from Port Boisé at the southern limit of the main land to Kouaoua at the northern limit of the distribution. This species occurs in humid forests, scrubland (maquis) on ultramafic substrate and more rarely dry forests at an altitudinal range 30-1,000 m asl. This species occurs in several protected areas and is very common. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) estimated to be 3,885 and 208 km², respectively, Parsonsia effusa does not seem globally threatened. It is therefore considered Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area
Parsonsia effusa is endemic to New Caledonia where it is distributed in the south of Grande Terre, from Port Boisé at the southern limit to Kouaoua in the northern limit of the distribution.
Population
The population size is not known. However field observations indicate that the species is very common.
Habitat
This species occurs in humid forests, scrubland (maquis) on ultramafic substrate and more rarely dry forests at an altitudinal range 30-1,000 m asl.
Threats
This species occurs in several protected areas and is very common and it does not seem globally threatened.
Conservation
Parsonsia effusa is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it is present in several protected areas : la Dumbéa, Haute Dumbéa, Forêt cachée, Parc des Grandes Fougères, Côte Oubliée, Mont Do, Montagne des sources.
