Parsonsia laxiflora is an endemic liana of New Caledonia distributed in the north west part of the main (Grande Terre), from Poya at the southern limit to Néhoué at the northern limit as well as in Baaba island. It occurs in scrubland (maquis) on serpentine substrate at an altitude range of 5-600 m asl. The main impacts identified comes from uncontrolled bushfires and indirectly mining activites (road constructions) at Ouzangou and Tiebaghi. Population size is unknown. The number of locations, based on habitat degradation as the main threat, is estimated to be over ten. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 100 and 1,860 km², Parsonsia laxiflora is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v) with a decline of the concerned criteria.
