Parsonsia pachycarpa is an endemic liana endemic of New Caledonia. It is widespread across the Grande Terre, from the far south to Poum at the northern limit of the main land as well as in Belep islands. This species grows in forests in various substrates at an altitude range of 2-650 m asl. This species also occurs in dry forests of the west coast of the main land. This species is very common and it does not seem globally threatened. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) estimated to be 12,951 and 132 km², respectively. Parsonsia pachycarpa is therefore considered Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Parsonsia pachycarpa is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widespread across the Grande Terre, from the far south to Poum at the northern limit of the main land as well as in Belep islands.
Population
The population size is not known. However field observations indicate that the species is very common.
Habitat
Parsonsia pachycarpa occurs in forests in various substrates at an altitude range of 2- 650 m asl. This species also occurs in dry forests of the west coast of the main land.
Threats
This species is very common and it does not seem globally threatened although some subpopulations may be impacted by uncontrolled bushfires.
Conservation
Parsonsia pachycarp is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in two protected areas : Vallée de la Thy, Aoupinié.
