Parsonsia populifolia is an endemic liana of New Caledonia. It has a scattered distribution across the Grande Terre, at the north east coast of the Grande Terre and at Tiebaghi in the north west as well as in Belep islands. This species occurs in humid forest and maquis on various substrates at an altitude range of 10-500 m asl. The main threats are uncontrolled bushfires and mining activities at Tiebaghi that contribute to the decline of its habitat quality. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated to be of 6,651 km² and 72 km² with an estimation of ten locations. Parsonsia populifolia is therefore assessed as Vulnerable (VU) with criteria B1ab(ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v) with a continuing decline of all the concerned criteria.
