Parsonsia scabra is an endemic liana endemic of New Caledonia. It is widespread across the Grande Terre, from the far south of the main land to Poum at the northern limit. It also occurs in Kié islet and Ile des Pins at the south of the main land. This species grows in coastal forests and dry forests in various substrates at an altitude range of 2-600 m asl. This species is very common and it does not seem globally threatened. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) estimated to be 15,957 and 164 km², respectively. Parsonsia scabra is therefore considered Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Parsonsia scabra is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widespread across the Grande Terre, from the far south of the main land to Poum at the northern limit. It also occurs in Kié islet and Ile des Pins at the south of the main land.
Population
The population size is not known. However field observations indicate that the species is very common.
Habitat
Parsonsia scabra occurs in coastal forests and dry forests in various substrates at an altitude range of 2-600 m asl.
Threats
This species is very common and it does not seem globally threatened although some subpopulations may be impacted by mining activities at Tiebaghi and uncontrolled bushfires.
Conservation
Parsonsia scabra is not protected by legislation in New Caeledonia and it does occur in three protected areas : Ouen Toro, Mont Mou, Vallée de la Thy.
