Parsonsia terminaliifolia is an endemic liana of New Caledonia distributed in the northern half part of the main land (Grande Terre) as well as in Yandé island. This species is found in scrubland (maquis) on serpentine substrate at an altitudinal range 0-900 m asl. This species is locally common and it does not seem globally threatened at the moment. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) estimated to be 6,732 and 228 km², respectively, Parsonsia terminaliifolia does not appear to be threatened at the moment, and is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened. It is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Parsonsia terminaliifolia is endemic to New Caledonia where it is distributed in the northern half part of the main land (Grande Terre) as well as in Yandé island.
Population
The population size is not known. However field observations indicate that the species is locally common.
Habitat
This species occurs in scrubland (maquis) on serpentine substrate at an altitudinal range 0-900 m asl.
Threats
This species is locally common and it does not seem globally threatened at the moment altough some subpopulations may be impacted by uncontrolled bushfires.
Conservation
Parsonsia terminaliifolia in not protected by legislation in New Caledonia. It is present in several protected areas : la Dumbéa, Haute Dumbéa, Forêt cachée, Parc des Grandes Fougères, Côte Oubliée, Mont Do, Montagne des sources.
